From the Desk of Pastor Tom
God has designed his church and the gospel mission to be supported and sustained by God’s people. This is true locally and globally. Eastside Baptist Church currently sends monthly financial support to 18 missionaries in the US and around the world. Some serve in developed countries, others serve in developing countries, we support missionaries inside the former soviet bloc countries that still have not recovered, and we also support missions happening in restricted access regions (or places where speaking of Jesus can be dangerous). Our budget as a church is dedicated to Gospel work here and around the world. For this to continue, it does require the involvement of God’s people. And once again, our goal here is not to twist any arms, layer on the guilt, or mis-apply scripture. The generosity of the givers here at Eastside has been powerful and humbling. So if you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, if you are a follower of Christ and a part of Eastside Baptist Church, what does your financial giving need to look like? What does Scripture say? 2 Corinthians 8 points us towards a view of giving founded on and following the grace of God in our lives. Our giving is motivated and empowered by God’s redeeming transforming grace and grace of God is the example or standard of our giving. May we prayerfully and faithfully be growing in this “act of Grace” (2 Corinthians 8:7).
