From the Desk of Pastor Tom

“The Acts of the Apostles” is a very descriptive title for this book that documents the actions of Jesus Christ’s followers. This was a time to shift from the work and ministry of Jesus Christ while He was on earth, to the establishment of the church through the work of the Holy Spirit and the spread of the Gospel. The book of Acts is a gripping narrative with political intrigue, social challenges, and miraculous wonders on dramatic display. The message of Jesus Christ did not disappear after His death. It just continued to grow. Acts chapter 1 begins with a reminder about the powerful gospel of Jesus Christ then moved to the promise of the coming Holy Spirit who would empower the disciple’s mission of Gospel proclamation. In verse 9-12, we find a clear sign of Jesus Christ’s deity and the urgency of the Gospel spread. The disciples had the opportunity to watch Christ, who rose by His own power from the dead, ascend up into heaven. This was a miracle. If they were tempted to doubt all of Christ’s earlier miracles and words, He once again proved beyond any doubt that He was God. In verse 10, the disciples are captivated and are found simply staring into the sky, marveling at an incredible miracle! The disciples initially stood dumbfounded and speechless but then returned to Jerusalem rejoicing and worshipping. The book of Luke and the beginning of Acts reveals Jesus Christ is God, He is the Savior, and He is worthy to be worshipped and talked about. Take time to pray that God will reveal Himself to you through His Word and help you respond appropriately to Him as we continue this study. The Acts of the Apostles shows the followers of God responding with passionate evangelism and entire lives devoted to Christ.
