From the Desk of Pastor Tom

As we think about this next year and what God has in store for Eastside, one thing we need to consider is our new deacons. Our current deacons are Jake Nosker, Brian Hay, and Ricky Horton. They have served wonderfully and have been a blessing to each of you and our church. Jake and Ricky will be transitioning off of serving as deacons and Brian will continue on for another year. The Eastside constitution is setup so that qualified men are recognized by the church and serve for up to 3 years before stepping back to refresh and allow others to serve.
Aren’t we all supposed to serve each other? Yes! Every believer is called to serve God and each other. Though, sometimes in our humanity we don’t do that as well as we could and so we need organization and help in our service. Acts 6 gives us a very helpful glimpse into what this looks like and how it played out in the early church. It was a growing multicultural congregation with a deep commitment to serve people in need. However, there was an issue as Greek widows were being neglected within the physical support system of the church. All the believers came together to recognize and appoint men to serve and oversee the physical ministries of the church. These men were full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, had good reputations, and joyfully served others.
Our deacons have been wonderful examples of servant leadership. We pray together for each other and for you individually and corporately as our church family. They do many things, from helping to organize church workdays, to helping carry meals to those who are sick or hurting, they help do small and large things. Not for a paycheck, but because they love God and they love you!
