Politics and Scripture
This Sunday Pastor Tom will wrap up the Politics and Scripture series. Last Sunday he set the stage, and this week will be the much-anticipated conclusion. If you didn’t get a chance to catch the first message, don’t worry, you can easily catch-up with the link provided below. But make sure to mark your calendars for this Sunday to hear Pastor Tom share how we should approach politics through the lens of scripture. It’s sure to be an enlightening and thought-provoking experience. And don’t forget to invite your loved ones to join us – after all, it’s always better to journey together.
Ice Cream Social!!!!!
You won’t want to miss this SPECIAL EVENT. Plan to be here next week (Sunday July 21st at 5pm) for a special time of fellowship, singing, and eating ice cream (or sorbet for those of us who are lactose intolerant)😊. Even if you don’t eat ice cream (although I can’t imagine not eating ice cream), you still will want to be here for this SPECIAL EVENT!!!!!
Couple’s Retreat
Mark your calendar for September 6-7 and Sign Up! We will be hosting a special Couple’s Retreat at the Blowing Rock Conference Center. Pastor Dan Burrell will be our guest speaker. Drive up to the retreat after work Friday and head home Saturday early afternoon. This will be a beautiful time rejoicing in God’s creation, growing in Scripture, and growing with your spouse. Cost is only $200 per couple and covers lodging and meals.
From the Desk of Pastor Tom
Exciting News! Daniel McArtor will be starting a volunteer ministry internship here at Eastside this next week. He will be learning and participating in many different aspects of our church life together and you will be seeing him more.
As Daniel observes a local church in practice and reflects on God’s Word, he will be better prepared for whatever service God has for him. He will read and write responses to assigned passages and theological books. There will be time given for discipleship meetings, church maintenance, teaching opportunities (children, teens, adults), hospital visitations, ministry meetings, outreach events, and more. The vision is such that he would serve our church as our church serves him. I would love it if he received support and input from not just me as the pastor, but also the deacons, and every church member as we live in community together. If you are curious to know more about what he will be doing feel free to ask Daniel or myself.
Daniel is praying about whether God would have him serve in ministry but this internship does not mean he has to become a pastor. There is great benefit in preparing and raising up men who will go into full time ministry or become strong lay leaders with a healthy understanding of the church. Please be in prayer for him as he learns and grows. Also be in prayer that God will give him wisdom and guidance regarding future decisions.
Be encouraging and maybe even sign up to host him for a Sunday lunch (signup in church lobby). We would love for him to get to know our church families better and hear stories of how God saved you and is at work in your life. I’m excited about what God is doing at Eastside, and excited to walk with Daniel in the coming weeks.
