ClosePsalm 36 closes out week one — the Friday psalm that pulls the John readings together. It opens in the dark: a portrait of the wicked heart with “no fear of God before his eyes” (vv.1–4). Then it turns, and the light floods in — the Lord’s steadfast love reaching to the heavens, His people feasting in His house and drinking “from the river of your delights” — until it lands on the verse that ties the whole week together: “For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light” (v.9). That one line runs straight through John 1–4 on two threads: light shining in the darkness, and living water welling up to eternal life. The fountain David sang about has a name.
