Acts 8: Another Road, Another Stranger
Read Acts 8:26-40 and see if it sounds familiar. A man is riding home from Jerusalem, reading Isaiah out loud, and he can’t make sense of it. A stranger runs up beside him on the road. The man asks, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this?” And verse 35 says Philip, “beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.” You’ve heard this story before. In Luke 24, on the road to Emmaus, two confused disciples meet a stranger who, “beginning with Moses and all the Prophets,” shows them the things written about himself. Then he vanishes. Here the Spirit carries Philip away, and the eunuch goes on his way rejoicing. Jesus opened the Scriptures on one road. Now his witness is doing the same thing on another. And the eunuch’s question is still the right one for every page of your Bible: who is this about?
