Discussion Questions for Stewardship of Life
📖 Biblical Insight
1. The Master and His Servants — Matthew 25:14–18
- What details does Jesus give about the master, the servants, and the distribution of the talents?
- What do the first two servants’ response reveal about how they understood their responsibility?
- Why might Jesus emphasize the servants were given different amounts?
2. The Master’s Evaluation — Matthew 25:19–27
- When the master returns, what does he ask of the servants? What does he not ask them?
- What do you see in the master’s response to the first two servants compared to the third?
- What does the third servant reveal about failure to act on what God has entrusted to us?
3. Faithfulness, Reward, and Responsibility — Matthew 25:28–30
- What does the master’s response to the first two servants suggest about what the master values?
- What does the master’s statement, “You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much,” teach us about the relationship between present faithfulness and future responsibility?
- Why do you think Jesus ends the parable with such a severe contrast between the servants?
🔨Practical Application
1. Steward the Life God Has Actually Given You
- What is something in your life that you need to begin viewing as an opportunity from God?
- How will home, work, neighborhood, hobbies, or schedule become places where you serve God?
- What would change if you viewed each day as something God has given you to invest rather than simply something to get through (or bury)?
- How can we distinguish between legitimately enjoying God’s gifts and using them selfishly?
- Where might God be giving you an opportunity to invest in someone else’s spiritual growth, serve your church, or participate in God’s mission?
3. Faithfulness Matters More Than Size
- Why is it easy to compare what God has given us with what He has given someone else?
- How can comparison either discourage us from serving or make us feel superior to others?
- What is a “small” opportunity God has placed in front of you that you may be tempted to overlook?
- How can our group encourage one another to faithfully use whatever God has entrusted to us?
🪞 Personal Reflection
1. What Has God Entrusted to Me?
- List your time, talents, treasure, testimony, relationships, home, career, opportunities.
- What might change if you consciously began each day by asking, “God, how do You want me to use what You have given me today?”
- Where might “doing nothing” actually be a form of poor stewardship in your life?
- In what area of stewardship are you faithful and encouraged? Where do you need to grow?
- Give one specific thing you can begin doing this week to leverage what God has entrusted to you.
