Safety Team
If you are willing to serve on the Safety Team (or would like to know more), please plan on attending a quick meeting after the morning service on June 1st. We will discuss what is involved and what the rotation for service will be.
Continued Prayer
Please continue to pray for the many families in the church who are experiencing grief and loss right now. Also, continue to pray for Lee Cha for his strength to return.
Praise
Kevin returned home today! Although continue to pray for his strength to return too!
Men’s Morning Bible Study
There is a group of men from the church that have been meeting Thursday’s at 7am. We are about to begin a new study called “Daily Doctrine.” If you are interested in some spiritual encouragement, prayer, and growing deeper in your knowledge together with other men let Pastor Tom know!
From the Desk of Pastor Tom
As we journey through our Counter Culture series in the book of Titus, I pray that you have picked up on the importance God places on our spiritual growth! Who we are as a church, what we do as God’s people, and what we believe as Christians should be deeply counter cultural. It is not that we are anti-culture (unless our culture is anti-God), but that we are being transformed by God so that we are spiritually different. We are no longer in bondage to sin and destruction. We now can be growing in our knowledge of the truth. We no longer believe the lies we used to believe. We have a hope that is eternal and beautiful. We no longer live for ourselves. We love God our Savior and we live for him above all else.
It can be tempting to settle into a weekly routine that is focused on maximizing comfort while perhaps not maximizing our journey of growth in Christ-likeness. God calls every believer to grow toward spiritual maturity. Titus 1 gives a thorough illustration of this for Elders so they can serve as spiritual leaders. But Titus 2 will broaden that calling for growth to all the church (old, young, men, and women). Your family does not have to function like the “normal” homes around you. Marital faithfulness and intimacy (1:6) is God’s design and his desire, and it is possible with God’s help! Godly parents can point their children towards Christ (1:6) with love, patience, and joy. The vices of “acceptable” society should not characterize a follower of Christ who is being transformed through the power of the Holy Spirit (1:7). And the beautifully “unnatural” virtues of a godly believer should shine brightly for everyone to see (1:8). The character of a believer, who we ARE, is foundational. Being a Christian is not first and foremost about what we do (going to church, serving those in need, not lying, etc) but most fundamentally about who we are becoming in Christ. Titus will go on to show how who a believer is flows out into works that are universally acknowledged as good (Titus 3). However, the first (and only) “do” Titus mentions for a mature spiritual leader is to “hold firm” to God’s Word. Hold firm to Scripture so that it can be used to encourage and rebuke.
Where are you in your journey as a follower of Christ? Have you settled into a comfortable routine that isn’t spiritually growing? Are you complacent with sin? Are you content with coasting spiritually?
How are you going to intentionally grow spiritually the rest of this year? What does God want to grow in your life this next month? What do you need to begin doing this week so God’s Word can continue transforming you?
Bible reading? Prayer? Scripture memorization? Personal application? Spiritual discussions with your spouse? Family devotions with your kids? A men’s bible study one morning? A women’s bible study? A spiritual texting group with some fellow believers? Joining in with an Eastside “Connect Group” for more fellowship and accountability?
If you would like any prayer for the journey, any suggestions for resources, or information on options please reach out and let me know. Let us pursue Christ together. God Bless.
